Education Specialist Requisition ID req21851 Working Title Education Specialist Position Grade 11 Position Summary The For Best Consideration Date has been changed to 11/11/2022 The Engineering Student Success (ESS) Center, in the UNM School of Engineering, is seeking a full-time, detail-oriented Education Specialist with an engineering or education background who is enthusiastic to work in a fast-paced work environment on main campus. The Education Specialist will be responsible for planning and implementing the curriculum of our summer engineering enrichment programs, in addition to coordinating educational activities and hands-on engineering-related experiments throughout the year. Must be capable of planning hybrid (in-person and online) classes and seminars. Provide career guidance to middle & high school students interested in STEM fields. On an on-going basis, will provide the necessary support to ESS administration to include data collection, tracking and reporting of students and program participants involved in various programs within the unit. Manages and facilitates engineering educational activities for our commuter and residential summer programs including, but not limited to: planning and designing curricula; researching and defining educational goals, objectives and methodologies to meet program goals; hiring summer program personnel; organizing and supervising day-to-day educational activities and hands-on experiments for high school students; recruiting, interviewing and selecting program participants; contacting and coordinating with faculty and company partners participating in the summer programs. At times, will need to transport students by vehicle to off-campus field trip locations. Assists with grant and/or proposal writing as appropriate to the objectives and funding nature of summer programs. Serves as a point of contact for summer program guest speakers, vendors, and high school counselors/representatives. Works closely with the unit Director in the grant submission process and in the development and submission of final reports to summer program funding agencies. Program implementation for grant-funded programs. This may include student tracking, reporting, and development of outreach activities aimed at elementary, middle school, high school, and college students. Plans and develops appropriate training programs, presentations, seminars for engineering tutors and ESS student employees. Evaluate engineering student academic needs and support the tracking of engineering scholars and students receiving tutoring services or scholarship support. May collaborate with Unit Administrator and the ESS Director in this effort. Writes, edits, and coordinates development of courses and topics, promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, website, and/or brochures, as appropriate to each respective summer, tutoring or scholarship program. Coordinates year-round Engineering campus group visits and outreach activities for K-12 students interested in pursuing Engineering or Computer Science degrees. This includes school visits and coordination of information sessions and demo presentations to elementary, middle school and high school students. During the academic year, may attend a variety of recruitment events to promote summer programs hosted by the UNM School of Engineering. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned, including: assisting in the front desk area when needed, data collection, assisting in the coordination and facilitation of other engineering-related competitions & events such as VEX Robotics, MathMovesU, MathCounts, and updating unit's web site pertaining to pre-college initiatives and scholarship resource information. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
