The Privacy Legal Team is a part of The Walt Disney Company's ("TWDC") world-class Legal and Global Affairs Department. The Privacy Team provides privacy and data security legal advice to TWDC's businesses around the globe in all varieties of cutting-edge contexts, including new and advanced technologies, advertising and marketing, content distribution, and product development, operation, and distribution. The team's mission is to ensure that privacy expectations of TWDC's consumers, employees, and partners are met, while helping our businesses deliver the entertainment, information, inspiration, and magic that is Disney.
The Principal Counsel ("PC") Privacy will provide privacy and data security legal advice to the global TWDC enterprise, with a focus on our Disney Entertainment & Sports Distribution and Ad Sales businesses, including Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu. The PC will draft and negotiate privacy and data security terms for content and digital product distribution agreements, a variety of advertising technology agreements, and vendor and other third-party agreements. The PC will also advise on privacy and data security compliance, policy, and process, in support of business teams in the areas of advertising; advertising sales; advertising measurement and research, distribution and licensing of Disney content; digital streaming product development and operation; and broader data sharing and use initiatives, including between affiliates and third parties. The PC will need a strong working knowledge of global privacy and data security laws, rules, regulations, and self-regulatory guidelines, including comprehensive and sectoral privacy laws in the US (both state and federal) and in other jurisdictions.
Responsibilities:
Draft and negotiate privacy and data security terms for agreements with distribution partners, vendors and other third parties (e.g., advertising technology, programmatic and addressable advertising, analytics and measurement, research, and data management).
Advise on privacy and data security compliance, policy, and process in support of business teams in the areas of advertising; advertising sales; distribution and licensing of Disney content; digital streaming product development and operation; and broader data sharing and use initiatives, including between affiliates and third parties.
Possess a strong working knowledge of global privacy and data security laws, rules, regulations, and self-regulatory guidelines, including GDPR, LGPD, CCPA, CPRA, VCDPA, CDP, and other US state laws, VPPA, COPPA, TCPA, and the DAA and NAI guidelines and principles.
Work directly with business and legal colleagues throughout TWDC, both domestically and globally.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in a law firm and/or corporate legal department advising on privacy and data security issues, including negotiating and drafting contracts and providing compliance-related guidance.
Knowledge of global privacy and data security laws, rules, regulations, and self-regulatory guidelines, including GDPR, LGPD, CCPA, CPRA, VCDPA, CDP, and other US state laws, VPPA, COPPA, TCPA, and the DAA and NAI guidelines and principles.
Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and devise solutions and strategies.
Ability to anticipate and understand the implications of agreements, contractual provisions, and related decisions, including identifying and assessing potential risks and impacts.
Superior drafting, negotiating, and writing skills, as well as the ability to problem solve in an efficient, business-friendly, creative manner.
An excellent work ethic and commitment to professionalism; excellent attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with all levels of co-workers and clients.

Expertise in content and digital product distribution agreements, including MVPD, DMVPD, and Application Development agreement (e.g. Apple, Google, etc.).
Significant experience providing privacy and data security guidance in connection advertising, including advertising sales, online behavioral advertising (including programmatic), and measurement, research, and analytics.
Familiarity with ad tech and the online advertising ecosystem.
Experience providing legal services to international teams.

The hiring range for this position in California is $205,700 - $266,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
